Online ordering systems

In an online ordering system, all the information provided to the visitor's web browser comes from a database. The database, designed to provide both product information and to collect online orders, resides on the server for the website. Information from the database tables is retrieved by ASP (Active Server Pages) using SQL queries. Individual orders can be acknowledged automatically by a system generated e-mail sent by the SMTP server at the ISP (Internet Service Provider).

The owners of the website can view and print out their latest orders online at any time by using a separate online interface that can only be accessed by authorised personnel over a password protected secure connection. The database can also be downloaded and the orders appended to a compatible office DMS (database management system), which we can provide.

Deram online ordering systems are designed to meet each customer's specific requirements. Whether you have just a few products or a huge volume of items, we can provide a suitable system. For example, one of our clients, who is a book seller, has over 6,000 titles available online. The books are catalogued on a database in their office and a version of the database is uploaded to their web server in a few minutes once a week, so no other additional work is required to keep their online system up to date.

The online database is equipped with a search engine that enables visitors to search by a range of criteria including subject, author and publisher. This enables prospective customers to isolate an individual item or a range of items that they are interested in. The covers and details of the books can be viewed using the view facility alongside each of the listed entries. In this way tens of thousands of items can be made available on line.

Online order systems can be designed to suit practically any kind of business, no matter how big or small your range of products or services.
